It was an International Women’s Day event that offered attendees an opportunity to network, celebrate and come away with a greater understanding of the importance of women’s breast screening and health.
Community-based Arnprior organization Urban Runaway hosted the Saturday-morning event, which was well-attended by an enthusiastic crowd, said founder Leslie Anne Hook.
The agenda was designed to foster increased community co-operation and build relationships.
Hook expressed particular thanks to guest speaker Lisa Woodtke and Arnprior Regional Health for facilitating a community-uniting conversation about the Ontario Breast Screening Program.
Woodtke’s presentation offered up a wealth of information, including what to expect when going for your first mammogram.
New guidelines in place mean that any woman 40 and over is eligible for the program and patients can book their own appointment with their health card. A doctor’s referral is not required, said Woodtke.
Among those gathered for the event were members of the Prior Chest Nuts, Arnprior’s beloved dragon boat team made up of a team of breast cancer survivors.
Urban Runaway is in its fifth year of operating, explained Hook, and is looking to expand.
