St. Joseph's senior student team looking to break the ice against their teachers at the Doug Miller Classic
St. Joseph’s Catholic High School had a little fun ahead of March Break during a trip down to the myFM Centre.
The school hosted its annual Doug Miller Hockey Classic, which teacher Ryan McIntyre says was a perfect chance for students and faculty to unwind with a little friendly competition that puts a wrap on their studies during the coldest months of the year.
He adds that the Classic has evolved to be much more than just a game in recent years, as it now serves as a tribute to one of St. Joe’s foremost promoters of school sport.
It’s all fun and games, and both sides try to keep it friendly, but McIntyre admits the bragging rights his fellow teachers can enjoy for a second straight year are a nice touch, especially as there was more than one team vying for the right to take them on.
The seniors beat the juniors in what McIntyre called a “barnburner” 4-3 win before getting a reality check from the teachers, who held a six-goal lead going into the final minutes of their match.
