The King Charles III Coronation Medal Ceremony took place on Monday afternoon at the Horton Community Centre. A total of 30 medals were handed out by MP Cheryl Gallant to various local individuals from many walks of life, all of whom have made a contribution to the community in various ways from the arts to charity involvement.
Among the notable recipients was up and coming local musical dynamo Sierra Levesque who tells myFM how thrilled she as to have gotten the call:
The “Got You In Mind” Thrift Store has been a staple in downtown Pembroke for as long as most can remember and owner Blanche Doucy was on hand yesterday to receive her medal in appreciation for her community spirit and involvement. Those who know Blanche know her to be incredibly modest and unassuming and her reaction to receiving her medal was very much in keeping with her personality saying only that she felt like “The richest person in the world” at that moment.
Local legend Josh Woermke who is best known to Valley residents as a long time supporter of the Pembroke fire department as Sparky The Dog was on hand to receive his medal with his family proudly looking on.
MP Cheryl Gallant who has been a staple of leadership in the Ottawa Valley for decades was presented with the daunting task of choosing who would be most deserving of this prestigious medal. Gallant explains how the King Charles III medal came to be and why it had been as long as it has since the medal had been awarded:
Gallant is no stranger to ceremony but she told myFM that this particular day was especially memorable as she had the opportunity to share the moment that for many was the highlight of their lives:
Congratulations goes to all of the recipients of this unique and important award.
