Paige Prangley a Grade 1-5 Teacher at Pine View Public School has published her book “Educational Superhero” which is a fun and imaginative story that celebrates the often-unsung heroes in schools: Educational Assistants.
Prangley started this project a couple years ago through the School Community Project, where she was making stories on different topics for students to work on throughout the month. As the community got more involved, she received grants through the Educator Fund from David Minns Insurance, which helped her throughout her writing journey. She started to work on a book for May but didn’t want to start there.
In a fun and imaginative way, this book highlights the everyday superheroes who don’t wear capes or have flashy logos but use their unique superpowers to support both students and staff. Ideally for young readers, this story teaches the importance of appreciating those who help us learn, grow, and succeed daily. Prangley shares with myFM that while this book was originally written for the Educational Assistants (EAs) in her classroom, it is meant to be enjoyed by everyone.
When she sat down to figure out the nitty-gritty of getting her book published she decided to create her own illustrations and use Amazon to self publish Educational Superhero. She explained that although she didn’t share much about this project with others in the beginning, she has been overwhelmed by the incredible support she’s received from everyone.
Paige’s mission doesn’t stop with this one book, as she will have 10 books for 10 months, with one coming out in May for Mental Health.
She adds that this was never about making money, but to use these books as resources when it comes to teaching and to shine a light on local hero’s in the school system. Paige extends a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has read the book or helped spread the word. She also teased that readers can look forward to her next book, which will be released in May.
