As hectic as the process was to prepare for today’s snap provincial election, everything more or less came together so far for our riding’s Elections Ontario officials to run an efficient process.
Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke returning officer Brennan Trainor explains that polls are open today from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m.
So, what happens when polls close?
After the tabulation and report, paper ballots are driven to the returning office in Pembroke.
A number of our region’s polling stations are a bit more high-tech.
And as long as everything goes as planned, learning the local results shouldn’t take that long.
Trainor tells myFM that there are about 76 polling stations across the riding, including the seven advance polls.
Along with advance polls, there were a number of additional votes – special ballots were cast at a number of area hospitals and long-term care homes, as well as through home visits. And there was also the vote-by-mail option leading up to the election.
Total advance voters numbered 10,573, or 7.5 per cent of eligible voters.
