Wedding of Mary Ringrose and Jon Rousselle (and their doggie Fergus). Town of Renfrew Officiant Hannah MacMillan
Valentine’s Day means love is in the air for many Renfrew couples, including a few ready to take the plunge into loving matrimony.
Renfrew’s Communication and Engagement Coordinator Hannah MacMillan says the local clerk’s office has made use of a recent addition to their services to host a handful of marriages on Friday, hosting special ceremonies in front of officials and loved ones inside council chambers.
It all gets started with the official paperwork, which MacMillan adds is getting a new wrinkle of its own that will make it even easier to tie the knot.
Civil marriages have become increasingly popular since Renfrew held its very first in September 2023, and MacMillan says town hall has developed a handful of ceremonies that can be tailored to the couple-to-be.
The Valentine’s bump will probably not last the rest of the winter, which MacMillan admits is their slow season for nuptials. Business will probably pick back up in the summer, considering town hall was officiating and hosting as many as three unions a week around that time last year.
That number could climb even higher as temperatures rise, considering that Town Hall is eyeing a picturesque spot just outside their front steps as their newest wedding venue.
Marriage licenses start at $125 for Renfrew residents or $150 for couples coming in from out of town. Ceremonies inside council chambers can be reserved from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. daily for $250.
