Human remains were discovered following a residential fire in Bancroft on Tuesday, February 4. The fire broke out on Meadow Court shortly after 8:00 p.m., prompting a quick response from emergency services, including officers from the Bancroft Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).
At this time, the homeowner is still unaccounted for, and investigators are unable to confirm the identity of the deceased. A postmortem examination will be conducted to determine who the individual is.
The investigation is being led by multiple agencies, including the Bancroft Fire Department, the Office of the Fire Marshal, the Bancroft OPP Crime Unit, and the OPP Forensic Identification Unit (FIS). They are working alongside the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service to gather more information about the incident.
