One of the most requested changes to what’s happening at Renfrew’s Landfill is now a reality.
The Bruce Street dump has been given the green light to move to a five-day-a-week schedule following some lengthy discussions between the town, its landfill staff, and the Ministry of Environment, which began around this time last year, according to Manager of Environmental Services Amanda Springer.
The new schedule sacrifices a few open hours each day in exchange for an uninterrupted stretch of five days, as residents can now access the landfill every Tuesday to Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and both Friday and Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Springer says their regular customers have been mostly positive about the move, noting that adding hours of operation on Fridays has been a frequent request.
She adds that the changeover to five shorter days each week allows them to do much-needed maintenance work without interruption, keeping the landfill better sorted and safer for everyone to use.
The first day for the new schedule at the Renfrew Landfill is Tuesday, January 7th, and Springer says the change will also affect seasonal services like the Hazardous Waste Depot once they open later this year.
