Police in Renfrew and Arnprior are looking back fondly on their race through both towns late last week.
Local OPP officers took part in the annual Ontario Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics on Thursday, taking off from Renfrew’s Town Hall that morning.
Runners enjoyed a pancake breakfast from the Renfrew Legion’s Ladies Auxiliary and met with Mayor Tom Sidney and other councillors before heading up Raglan Street, getting cheered on by students at Queen Elizabeth Public School on the way to a lunch break featuring barbeque and basketball at their detachment office.
Then that afternoon, the Arnprior Fire Department and Mayor Lisa McGee led runners from William Street towards Tim Hortons on Madawaska Boulevard, where they celebrated a successful day with tasty treats.
The OPP are still counting the money raised during the day, which will cover various expenses for local Special Olympics programs, including: games travel, accommodations, meals, staff support to the field, grants to new community programs, volunteer and athlete training, administration, information and promotional materials, and development initiatives.
