In McNab-Braeside, the opportunities for fall fun are almost as plentiful as the leaves that are about to blanket the earth.
Andrea Lamontagne, the township’s recreation director, is thrilled with the various activities on offer and eager to see township residents and visitors out having fun.
The fall fun kicks off with family bingo night on Thursday, Oct. 3 at the John A. Gillies building at 6 p.m., $2 a card.
Then on Sunday, Oct. 6 is the Fall Craft Show and Festivities, coming back for the second year. This free event, running from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. takes over the entire property at the Murray Yantha Community Centre on Russett Drive, explains Lamontagne.
And there’s a new addition to the schedule this year that should be a lot of fun.
Then on Saturday, Oct. 19 from 3-9 p.m. is a brand new event about which Lamontagne is very excited – the Braeside Block Party at the John A. Gillies Recreation Centre. The event will help celebrate a special grant, said Lamontagne.
Among the block party activities are community softball tournament and road hockey tournaments and those who’d like to participate are invited to log in to the township website or give the recreation department a call.
Rump Roasters will be serving food and there will be plenty of games and activities for all ages, said Lamontagne.
As far as Halloween goes, the township is trying something new with an event planned for Sunday, Oct. 27 beginning at 3 p.m.
Having Trunk or Treat in the parking lot means even trick or treaters with accessibility issues can participate, said Lamontagne.
There are several activities for the youngsters, as well, including a kids’ craft night Oct. 23 and a free Halloween movie night on Oct. 5. Craft nights for adults include door mat making and an apple pie workshop.
For more information on these and other events, visit the township website or social media.
