Renfrew Town Councillor Kyle Cybulski
We know that putting a new hotel in Renfrew is realistic, but now it’s time for the town to find the right team to make it happen.
Renfrew town council has directed staff to move forward with securing a developer to complete a hotel build as put forward by the recently completed economic feasibility study by hospitality research firm HVS Consulting.
The report suggests a mid-to-upper-scale hotel featuring 65 guestrooms and a 500-square-foot meeting space, typically associated with brands like Microtel by Wydnham, Comfort Inn, Avid by IHG, Tru by Hilton, or Best Western, would meet the growing need for more short-term accommodations in town.
Chief Administrative Officer Rob Tremblay pointed out that you don’t have to look very far to find a fitting example.
One of the parcels of land that could be developed without hassle was the study’s preferred site at the corner of O’Brien Road and Mask Road, next to the Visitor Information Centre.
Councillor Kyle Cybulski, who chairs the Economic Development Advisory Committee, believes that’s exactly where it should go.
Looking ahead, Tremblay says the town will need to be proactive in finding an interested partner to make the hotel a reality, whether by expressions of interest, listing the property, or through direct negotiations.
No specific timeframe was mentioned for the development of a new hotel, but the study lists economic projections for as early as 2026.
