With the recent completion of the Town of Renfrew’s Hotel Feasibility Study and submission of the final report, the economic development committee has given the nod to its preferred location.
The matter will now come before council on Tuesday, Sept. 25.
Chief building official Tom Webster was at the last committee meeting to outline the handful of town-owned properties that had been shortlisted as locations for a future hotel.
After discussion, committee members agreed that land behind the Visitor Information Centre, along Mask Road, near O’Brien Road, is the preferred location.
Webster explained that it, along with two other parcels – one behind WalMart and one beside the existing Days Inn, were also deemed preferred.
Those three properties made the shortlist because there are no constraints, they’re already serviced, and they’re large enough to accommodate a hotel, explained Webster.
Council will likely to now direct development staff to complete activities required to support the objective of securing a developer to complete a hotel build along the O’Brien corridor, in accordance with relevant town by-laws and policies and budgetary approvals.
