Nearly 10 months down the line, the Borghi family is almost ready to welcome Renfrew to the Swiss Alps.
Restaurateur Iris Borghi says hungry patrons will not have to wait much longer for their first chance to try her blend of Swiss and German cuisine as renovations at her new restaurant inside the former myFM station building on Raglan Street South are nearly finished.
People familiar with our former station will no doubt see a few nods to the past when the Swiss Alps opens for service as soon as the end of September; the kitchen is located where the main recording studio once sat, while the main dining area and bar will benefit from the beautiful exposed brick walls of the former offices at the far end of the space.
Borghi says the journey has taken a little longer than she had hoped, with delays in the construction process keeping her from opening in the middle of summer as planned. However, she says local professionals have been fully invested and supportive as the pieces begin to fall into place.
She has also been a lot of interest from curious onlookers who have been attracted to the work being done on the outside of the building, including a new patio space above the alleyway between Raglan Street and Plaunt Street.
Borghi would have loved to invite them inside for sneak peek at the transformation happening inside, but is content to wait until the Swiss Alps is ready to fill a niche she believes has been unclaimed by Renfrew’s current higher dining scene.
Updates on the Swiss Alps restaurant can be found on their social media pages, as well as on their website.
