Police have discovered a body in the Ottawa River, close to where a missing kayaker was last seen. The body was located on September 21, 2024, at around 1:00 p.m., following a multi-day search by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and the Sûreté du Québec.
The search began on September 18, 2024, when a kayak carrying two people capsized after encountering rapids near the Inter-Provincial Bridge on Highway 148. While a 34-year-old man was rescued with the help of police and private citizens, a 30-year-old woman remained missing. This prompted an extensive search involving the OPP’s Underwater Search and Recovery Unit (USRU), Emergency Response Team (ERT), and both marine and aviation units.
Authorities have yet to confirm the identity of the body. A post-mortem examination will be conducted to determine the cause of death, which is suspected to be drowning. The investigation remains ongoing.
