The Friends of the Caboose Group are not backing away from a commitment they made back in 2023.
Renfrew Town Council learned at their Tuesday night meeting that the Friends are still around $9,021 shy of their original $33,000 goal to repay the town for stripping the town’s historic caboose of lead paint before repainting and redecorating it.
However, Councillor Andrew Dick says they’re not throwing in the towel.
CAO Rob Tremblay says they’ve also approved a little extra to cover another $6,312 in other costs that were not considered when the deal was agreed to in 2023.
The Friends have made it clear to councillors and town staff that they are committed to fully repaying the town by their August 2025 deadline.
