The Ottawa Valley will play a part in a life-saving mission heading to the Prairies.
It Takes a Village Dog Rescue in Renfrew says they will be working in collaboration with Riverview Rescues and other groups across the province as part of the Prairie Paws Pursuit, a massive dog rescue operation heading to a remote Manitoba community between July 22nd and 26th.
The goal is to help the community with an overpopulation of dogs and avoid a cull situation. Remote communities often do not have access to vet care, and as such, the overpopulation of dogs is an ongoing challenge.
It Takes a Village says the operation will be a significant financial undertaking and they will need to rely on the generosity of donors and corporate sponsorship. ITAV adds that they are a registered not-for-profit charity and will be issuing tax receipts for donations over $20 as they cover the cost of rental vehicles, fuel, medical supplies, vetting costs for the dogs brought back, supplies, and more.
They are also in desperate need of foster families ahead of their team returning to their Lochwinnoch Road location with the rescued dogs on July 26th. While the rescue is prepared to support 100 dogs, it currently only has foster homes set aside for 30.
Community members can make donations via e-transfer through villagedogrescue@gmail.com or through a PayPal link on the It Takes a Village website.
