Renfrew Town Council put vacation plans on ice to make sure the local rink stays dry when things start to freeze over.
Council used a special Wednesday meeting to direct staff to determine what has been causing problems for one of the dehumidifiers in the main ice pad, which Recreation Director Kelly Latendresse says has been blowing fuses at the arena’s power source for the past few years.
She explains that the issue could significantly impact safety around the rink if left unsolved.
The town’s recreation operations team will be on a tight schedule to find and solve the problem plaguing the dehumidifier unit, as the main ice pad will need to open at the end of July in order to accommodate plans to finish the arena’s walking track.
The town has already sourced a $51,595 quote for a dehumidifier from CIMCO, the company that has been responsible for the plant room and dehumidification at the arena since 1988.
The council was unanimous in supporting the potential agreement, should it be necessary. Councillor Kyle Cybulski added that they might also want to look into the deal as a Plan B, even if the issue is at the power source and not the dehumidifier itself.
The project will be mostly funded out of savings from other projects that were to be funded out of the town’s equipment reserves.
