Summer hasn’t even officially arrived yet, but it’s about to get hot, hot, hot.
Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for some areas of Renfrew County, warning that a “one-day heat event” Wednesday will see temperatures climb above 30 degrees Celsius.
“The first one-day heat event is expected to begin Wednesday afternoon and end Thursday,” reads the alert, which was posted around lunchtime on Tuesday. “High temperatures on Wednesday will reach 31 to 32 degrees Celsius and overnight lows will reach near 20 degrees Celsius early Thursday morning.”
Officials say these conditions pose a health risk when you are not used to the heat and that everyone is at risk from heat, especially older adults; infants and young children; and people with chronic illnesses.
People are advised to drink plenty of cool liquids before feeling thirsty; and to keep cool by dressing for the weather and spending more time in a cool place.
The public can continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada on the website.
