The Pembroke Memorial Centre was buzzing on Wednesday as high schools students from across Renfrew County came together for the Options Skilled Trades Fair. At the core of the event was a skills competition involving more than 150 senior high school students who showcase their talents in trades such as carpentry, culinary arts, welding, small engine repair, hairstyling and more. Jamie Bramburger from Algonquin College in Pembroke highlighted the importance of the day.
More than 1,000 grade 7 to 12 students from across Renfrew and Pontiac counties attended Options as a field trip to learn more about the skilled trades. Bramburger also tells myFM news that the trades industry is the future.
Dozens of exhibitors, including employers who hire skilled trades workers, participated in interactive displays inside the Pembroke Memorial Centre and in the parking lot of the venue.
