One of the larger dairy operations in the Ottawa Valley, Lindmilk Farms is using next generation technology to stay ahead of the game.
Barend Van Lindenberg says the farm has been in the family since his folks married and moved to the country in the 1980’s, with a rotary style milking platform (which he describes as a “merry-go-round for cows) tending to 200 cows at any given time, as well as nearly 1,400 acres of cash crops on the farm.
Keeping up with the process is helped by a few recent additions to the farm, including cutting edge RFID tag that track each cows production and calving history, as well as keeping each cows specific dietary needs in mind at the feed wagon.
Barend says those innovations pay off by saving them as much as weeks worth of dairy and the money that comes with it, as milk production can vary wildly when the cows are sick or not fed properly.
