The owner of a new Renfrew-area business wants to help local students be the best they can be.
Gaelen Hart, is the proud owner of Brain Boosters, a Kindergarten to Grade 6 tutoring company that goes beyond a cookie cutter approach to helping children improve their learning.
Having previously worked for what she calls ‘box store’ tutoring companies, the former Ottawa Carleton District School Board teacher said she doesn’t believe in the philosophy of all students doing the same thing.
More than 15 years in Ottawa as a teacher have specially equipped her for providing the learning services she’s offering today, said Hart, noting she is trained in ABA therapy, reading recovery, and as a specialist in special education and guidance.
Among the biggest challenges facing today’s students is still the effects of the pandemic.
That means that now, there are students who might be in Grade 3 or Grade 4 and don’t have phonological awareness yet or students in Grade 4, 5, 6 who are lacking in math skills.
What kind of support do these kids need?
Knowing what’s going on in the classroom and with their child’s learning allows parents to offer help and support.
Hart is confident there is a way forward for all levels of students.
Along with standard tutoring sessions, Hart said she has recently started a math-based group, made up of four students who work well with others. She’s exploring the idea of another reading-focused group, as well.
And she’s excited to announce she’ll be offering day camp opportunities this summer.
Reading camp for ages 6-8 runs July 22-26. Back to School Prep camp for ages 8-10 runs Aug. 19-23. Back to School Prep camp for ages 6-8 runs Aug. 19-23.
