Boyd Brisco is the 2024 Bonnechere Manor Mini-Putt Open champion.
It’s a sure sign of spring and residents and staff at the Bonnechere Manor in Renfrew are getting in on the action of the Augusta Masters.
In fact, following a fun day of activities on opening day of the iconic golf tournament, the official ‘Manor Masters Trophy’ was presented to resident Boyd Brisco, winner of the 2024 Bonnechere Manor Mini-Putt Open.
In true Augusta Masters Tournament fashion, Boyd, who found the perfect touch and had the winning score of five under par, proudly donned his champion green jacket.
Recreation programmer Sherry Bradley and recreation and leisure student Joe Mick were inspired by the Masters tournament, which runs April 10-14, to create a golf-themed program.
“There was a golfing buzz with the residents and this got Sherry and Joe thinking how they could celebrate this storied tournament and have some fun with the residents,” reads a press release. “This led to them creating a mini putt tournament that gave residents the opportunity to find their swing and compete against each other in a fun little round of mini putt.”
Officials say the program was a success with residents, who are already looking ahead to 2025 and who will wear the coveted green jacket. The program has also sparked discussions around outings to local golf courses.
“The residents at Bonnechere Manor are sending good luck wishes to our Canadians competitors at Augusta and will cheering on Mike Weir, Corey Conners, Adam Hadwin and Nick Taylor,” reads the release.
