For a few moments, Renfrew experienced the dimmed lights of an evening sky at mid-day.
Renfrew sat just outside the path of totality for the Monday, April 8th, solar eclipse, meaning that the region did not face the same near-darkness as areas such as Kingston and Niagara.
That, paired with the increasingly thick cloud cover in the region that afternoon, made for a difficult experience for many private and family viewing parties, as well as community groups who chose to stay in the area to watch as the moon passed over the sun at around 3:20 p.m.
Other markets in the My Broadcasting Corporation family would fare better, as listeners continue to send photos of their eclipse experience to the dedicated solar eclipse page on our website.
You won’t have a choice but to go elsewhere for the next solar eclipse, as astronomers say Monday’s pass was likely the last one to localize near Renfrew and the Ottawa Valley until at least May 2106.
