Whitewater Region and Laurentian Valley townships are among the growing number of municipalities with partial burn bans in effect.
“Due to the unseasonably dry spring, a partial ban will be in effect for the foreseeable future, beginning Tuesday March 26, at 8 a.m.” reads a notice from Whitewater Region. “This ban prohibits open air and agricultural burning, however, recreational burning/campfires are still permitted.”
The notice goes on to say the fires must not be any larger than 2′ x 2′ and are to be monitored at all times.
“The weather conditions along with the Fire Weather Index provided by the MNRF, will be monitored to determine the length of the ban and if a complete ban is required,” reads the notice.
Laurentian Valley announced on social media that, effective March 27, an Open-Air Fire Ban is in effect.
“Recreation fires are still permitted at this time. We will provide a formal public notice when the fire ban has been lifted. Thank you for your cooperation,” reads the notice.
A Level 1 Fire Ban is also in effect in Greater Madawaska.
