The Renfrew Wolves will head home with the advantage after pulling away late to steal game one of their first-round playoff series with the Rockland Nationals on Friday night, 2-1.
Head Coach Ryan Leonard’s pre-game predictions came true, as the two sides played a fast-paced and highly physical game that saw tensions rise as the game moved into the third period with the Wolves down by a goal.
Dane Carter would bring the game level with a powerplay goal before a long pass from Owen Grainger opened Joshua Penney up for a breakaway that sealed the game for the Wolves. Renfrew goaltender Slava Gordeichuk made tidy work of game 1, turning away 29 of 30 shots for the win.
The two teams will switch places on Saturday night, with the Wolves hosting Rockland at the myFM Centre starting at 7:30. Leonard is asking Wolves fans to be loud and proud during what he says is “going to be a long and exciting series.”
