Their first-round playoff opponents have been almost a lock for most of the past week, but the Renfrew Wolves can now focus entirely on that matchup now that their final few regular-season games have wrapped up on a winning note.
The Wolves got their weekend off on a physical note on Friday at the myFM Centre with a 4-0 shutout win over the Hawkesbury Hawks. The game saw tensions rise on both sides, with a combined 84 minutes of penalties assessed throughout the game, including a rare gross misconduct penalty for Hawks forward Remi Gagne.
Noah Vom Scheidt’s 27th goal of the season would eventually break the deadlock in the third period, with Kai Billey and Jace Letourneau adding to Renfrew’s lead in the final minutes of play. Goaltender Slava Gordeichuk turned away 26 shots to secure the shutout for the Wolves.
Renfrew would hit the road to the Nepean Sportsplex for their final regular-season game against the struggling Raiders on Sunday. Kai Billey would open scoring in the first period, and the Wolves would score four unanswered goals later in the game to push past the Raiders for a 5-2 win.
Ethan Smith, Henry Wilson, Brody Simpson, and Dane Carter also scored, as Lincoln Mellenthin turned away 37 of 39 Nepean shots in the winning effort.
Renfrew will travel to the Rockland Arena this Friday night for game one of their first-round CCHL playoff series with the Rockland Nationals. Game time that evening is 7:30 p.m., with the call live on 96.1 myFM.
