The township of Bonnechere Valley Fire Department is sending out a warning for area residents to be mindful of grass fires. The department says that while we’re only in March, many fire departments in the Ottawa Valley have had to respond to grass fires. They ask that you refrain from tossing lit cigarettes and if you’re having a campfire never leave it unattended, have water to extinguish it at the end of the night.
The news comes as the McNab-Braeside Fire Department has declared a level one fire ban for their municipality, and after Horton Township’s Fire Department put out an acre-wide grass fire along Leavoy Lane on Monday morning before it could spread towards a nearby farm.
