St. Joseph’s Catholic High School in Renfrew returns from the weekend with an update on a serious matter that occurred on Friday.
In a message to parents, Principal Scott Nichol explains that local police attended St. Joe’s at around noon on Friday after the school’s office was made aware of a situation that happened during first period, which a tip to myFM that afternoon described as a gun/shooting threat.
Administration determined that there was no imminent threat to staff or students before officers arrived, and the individuals involved were removed from class as an investigation into the matter began.
The note also stresses that at no point did the situation warrant a lockdown or hold-and-secure of St. Joseph’s and, as such, were not called for.
Nichols would go on to say that “the safety of our staff and students is our top priority. When safety concerns arise such as on Friday, we keep our community partners apprised of the situation, and are supported by them when applicable.”
He adds that, if a student has concerns about something such as bullying or unsafe language, they should inform a staff member as soon as possible so that the school can act in a timely manner.
St. Joseph’s also welcomes parents and guardians to contact the school if there are any additional questions.
