They are back-to-back champions, but nobody said it would be easy for Team Canada at the World Junior Hockey Championships.
Team Canada, led by Head Coach and Renfrew native Alan Letang, dropped Friday’s game against host Sweden, 2-0, suffering their first shutout loss at the World Juniors since the 2021 gold medal game against the United States.
Goaltender Mathis Rousseau would keep the Canadians in the contest, stopping 22 of 24 shots, but his teammates were unable to solve a Swedish team that has yet to be scored on at the tournament.
Canada will look to rebound on New Year’s Eve, Sunday, December 31st, when they take on Germany. Game time is 1:30 p.m. EST.
