The community continues to share warm memories of Doug Miller and the kind of coach, teacher, father, and friend the local legend was.
Eugene Sheahan grew up with Miller, who passed away suddenly last week at the age of 73.
Whether it was with students at St. Thomas and St. Joseph’s Catholic Schools or with the players he coached, Eugene says Doug had a way of commanding the room.
Miller was also an avid volunteer for the NHA/NHL Museum, according to Board of Directors member Sandi Heins.
She explains how Doug made it a point, as a former teacher, to share the history inside the museum with Renfrew’s younger generation.
Heins is still shocked at the loss of Miller, whom she had seen just days prior at a function to introduce new members of Town Council to the museum.
96.1 myFM President Jon Pole explains how Doug’s actions were a perfect match with our station’s core beliefs.
With the new myFM Centre opening soon, Pole says that he would like to see some of that space used to pay tribute to difference makers in the community, like Doug Miller.
A memorial mass for Miller will be celebrated at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church on Friday, December 22nd, at 11:00 a.m., with a reception to follow at the Renfrew Golf Club that afternoon.
