What a difference a weekend has made for the Renfrew Wolves!
The Junior A side have leapt up the standings in the CCHL’s Robinson Division after a pair of wins on back-to-back nights and now sit in a playoff spot heading into the halfway point of the season.
The Wolves fortunes began turning on Saturday as they welcomed the Hawkesbury Hawks to the myFM Centre. It was Cram the Cruiser Night, with the Under 15 Timberwolves Rep team and local OPP joining them to accept donations for the Renfrew Food Bank ahead of the game.
The two teams would reward the generosity of fans by cramming the net on both ends in an 8-5 shootout win for the Wolves. Jace Letourneau continued his dominance with a hat trick, and team captain Andrew Morton added another pair of goals to keep the game out of reach for the visiting Hawkes.
Emmitt Robillard, Austin Fellinger, and Wyatt Hickok would also score for the Wolves, as goaltender Viacheslav Gordeichuk turned away 28 of 33 attempts to pick up the win.
Renfrew’s winning ways continued on Sunday as they travelled to the Pembroke Memorial Centre for Game 2 of this year’s Battle of the Valley against the Lumber Kings.
The Wolves would rely on their secondary scorers en route to a 6-3 victory. Dane Carter led the charge with a pair of goals, with Jack Dolan, Emmitt Robillard, Aaron Enright, and Josh Penney providing the extra offence needed for the win. Gordeichuk made 39 stops on 42 shots.
The Wolves will wrap up 2023 at home against Brockville on Wednesday, December 20th. Game time inside the myFM Centre is set for 7:00 p.m.
