This story reads like a play-by-play celebration of two seasons of accomplishments for the Arnprior District High School’s Senior Girls Basketball team, with colour commentary from two of the coaches involved.
The OFSAA Senior Girls Basketball Championship tournament, held in Guelph November 25th, saw the highest-ever showing by an ADHS Girls or Boys Basketball Team ever as the squad captured the silver medal; (a defeat in the final game was the girls’ only loss all season).
That’s co-coach Phil Moore.
In the first 4 games at OFSAA the ladies dominated their opponents and held them to a combined score total of 98 points.
A victory in a back-and-forth semi-final match with Sudbury’s LoEllen Park Secondary proved costly to the Rapids- with one starter going down to injury, and another on the limp entering the final game against Kings Christian Collegiate of Oakville.
Co-coach Chris Spratt says the nucleus of the Arnprior Rapids team had been together since Walter Zadow days.
Spratt says the team’s potential was definitely in evidence at last year’s OFSAA Championships in Bruce County.
All modesty aside, coaching does play a role in the equation, and Phil Moore say the achievement is the highlight of 36-years of mentoring.
Chris Spratt says that although the nucleus of this year’s Rapids team now moves on- they’ve set te bar high as far as ADHS ambitions.
Phil Moore says this past season is one full of many memories.
Chris Spratt says his personal highlight is one he is proud to share.
Both coaches say community support makes the accomplishment one that is shared by all.
Congratulations to the Arnprior Rapids Senior Girls Basketball team on a stellar season and a spectacular showing at OFSAA.
