Renfrew will mark a day of reflection and learning inside Ma-te-Way Park this Saturday, September 30th.
The town’s Chief Administrative Officer, Rob Tremblay, tells myFM News that the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation event this weekend is part of ongoing work to develop a strong relationship with the Bonnechere Algonquin First Nation.
He adds that the programming that their team has put together over the past week is just the start of community learning and healing.
Indigenous singing and drumming with the Spirit Wolf Singers and local dancers will highlight the event at the pavilion outside of Ma-te-Way Park starting at 11:00am. Buses to the park will be available to and from Town Hall before and after the event.
Tremblay points out that the nearby Ma-te-Way Activity Centre’s expansion efforts also feature the town’s growing relationship with Indigenous partners like the BAFN.
The Ma-te-Way Activity Centre’s medicine wheel and Indigenous Cultural Centre are expected to open sometime in the early spring.
