Tireless volunteer work has resulted in a local coach being honoured by Canada’s Governor General.
Renfrew Town Council welcomed the Vipers Wrestling Club’s Grant Lavellee to their meeting on Tuesday, September 26th, where Mayor Tom Sidney presented him with the Governor General Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers.
Sidney explains that Lavellee’s four decades of coaching wrestling in the area constitute almost 9,000 hours committed to bettering the local program.
The celebration of Lavellee’s work got started at a barbeque held by the Vipers last week, where Sidney first presented him the medal.
Lavellee would go on to encourage other Renfrew residents to volunteer time for their interests as well, calling it a rewarding experience.
Sidney adds that the efforts of Lavellee and others make Renfrew’s wrestling program the envy of other communities.
