UPDATE, TUESDAY JUNE 6th @ 10:05am:
Town Staff and the local OPP detachments have let myFM know that Wednesday’s Law Enforcement Torch Run will be postponed due to smoke from nearby wildfires hampering air quality.
The event is expected to be rescheduled for a later date, with more updates in the near future.
ORIGINAL STORY:
Don’t be surprised if you see a parade of Special Olympics athletes and volunteers strolling through town this week.
The annual Law Enforcement Torch Run rolls through Renfrew and Arnprior on Wednesday, June 7th in support of Special Olympics Canada.
Local OPP Constable Briana Roberge is hoping for better weather after a soggy day hampered participation last year.
Officers from both detachments will be taking part, collecting donations for Special Olympics Canada as they make their way through both towns on the day.
It’s altogether an important day that has officers excited to take part because, as Constable Roberge explains, their involvement in events like this is all about building trust within the community.
The Torch Run will start at Renfrew’s Town Hall at 10:00am on Wednesday heading down Raglan Street South towards the OPP detachment on O’Brien Road.
It will find itself in Arnprior not too long after, as they expect volunteers to take off from the old LCBO building on the corner of William and Daniel Street at 2:00pm on the way to the Tim Hortons on Madawaska Street.
Donations even as small as a loonie or toonie are appreciated, and can be made by simply dropping the spare change in one of the many buckets that will volunteers will be carrying along the run route.
