Nancy Dunbar and her family were touched by the care that her sister, Patricia, received after Hospice Renfrew took her into their care around 14 years ago, and since then have been frequent and regular supports of the cause.
While you can usually see them at the annual Hike for Hospice, include the one coming up this Sunday, the COVID-19 pandemic closing down the event one year forced them to get creative and go online to keep the facility up and running.
Since then, the Buy and Sell: Proceeds for Renfrew Hospice page of facebook has been a popular spot for residents in the Renfrew area to donate furniture and other items for draws and bids with proceeds helping to keep the high standard of end-of-life care Renfrew County has come to expect from the Hospice.
It’s a commitment to the community that has not gone unnoticed, as the Nancy and Ron Dunbar would be named Citizens of the Year at the 2022 Renfrew and Area Chamber of Commerce Awards Ceremony.
While the experience was humbling, Nancy says the recongition is not why they do it. Rather, it’s a continuing gratitude for how Hospice has treated her and her family all those years ago.
