How do you honour an real life trailblazer like Tom Stephenson?
Cheryl Gallant says it should start with his very own Cheater’s Trail.
Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke’s Member of Parliament took a moment during a recent session of Question Period to commemorate Stephenson, who recently died at the age of 86.
She explained just how big an impact the professor known as “Big Red” had in the Ottawa Valley.
On top of being a vital player in creating an outdoor component to Algonquin College’s forestry program, Stephenson and his family found another way to leave their mark inside Algonquin Park.
Gallant is now calling on Algonquin Park to rename the five kilometre Cheater’s Trail that connects the remote High Falls to the rest of the park in Stephenson’s memory.
