It might just be a Christmas miracle for local Junior Hockey.
The Central Canada Hockey League, which includes teams like the Renfrew Wolves and Pembroke Lumber Kings, were able to hammer out a deal with Hockey Eastern Ontario to continue the Under 18 AAA program.
The relationship between the two sides hit the rocks back in October, when a 10-year memorandum of understanding for the AAA program was cancelled in it’s first year.
TThe CCHL, which the announced the agreement on Christmas Eve, says they’re excited to provide current players and families a continued development path through local minor hockey and the chance to build their relationship with other partners in the HEO system.
They add that they’re looking forward to continued success for the partnership in the coming years.
According to a statement from Hockey Eastern Ontario, the CCHL will oversee six Under-18 teams starting with the 2023-2024 season, with three in the East side of the region and three in the West.
Which teams in the league will operate Under-18 AAA hockey clubs is to be decided at a later date by the HEO AAA Board of Governors.
