Kristen Wagner with 96.1 myFM General Manager Bob Dillabough
This year’s Kubota Woman Farmer of the Year is thrilled with how women have become more represented in local farming.
Kristen Wagner and her boyfriend operate the family-owned Long Lane Farms in Calabogie and she says the past six years have been an amazing learning process from starting a market garden to handling livestock of all sizes.
While she admits the past six years have presented challenges both financially and in terms of needing to hit the ground running with it, feeding the community has made the entire effort worth it.
Becoming a farmer has been a learning experience for Wagner, as she had to grow accustomed to the life quickly.
Her best advice for other women looking to take up agriculture is to work hard and push past any negativity that might come their way.
