Flags were at half-mast and light rain misted the Low Square Cenotaph on Monday as Renfrew’s Royal Canadian Legion Branch 148 held a wreath laying ceremony in honour of Queen Elizabeth II.
Public Relations Officer for the local Legion Branch, Debbie McDermid tells myFM about the Queen’s importance to the Legion.
While McDermid says that using the term “King” instead of “Queen” will take some getting used to, but she does not expect any major changes at the Legion following the passing of the 96-year-old monarch.
She adds that they’re keeping in touch with Dominion Command for any and all protocol updates.
McDermid notes that it was Queen Elizabeth II that gave the Royal Canadian Legion consent to use the term “Royal” in their names back in 1961, giving Her Majesty a special tie to the Legion that won’t be forgotten.
The Queen’s picture will stay up at the local Legion branch under a black drape until official pictures of King Charles III arrive.
