Officers with the Upper Ottawa Valley OPP took a moment to catch fish, not crooks, on Saturday.
Their Annual Kids, Cops, and Canadian Tire Fishing Derby took over the Pembroke waterfront on the morning of August 13th, as 66 young anglers were treated to ideal weather for the catch and release competition.
Prizes were handed out for both biggest and smallest fish, while groups and businesses helping out on the day made sure nobody went home empty handed.
The day was sponsored by Fishing Forever, a not-for-profit that funds fishing and conservational projects.
Fishing Forever chair Bob Izumi says “there is nothing that puts a smile on a kid’s face faster than catching a fish,” and that he relishes the chance to create opportunities for families to go fishing.
The Upper Ottawa Valley Detachment of the OPP also thanks the City of Pembroke, Pembroke Police Service Board, the Police Association of Ontario, Canadian Tire, The Pembroke Mall, and Allan’s Bait and Tackle for their support.
