The 33rd annual traditional Pow-Wow is this weekend in Pikwakanagan First Nation.
Pow-Wow Coordinator Jamie Sarazin says there will be a sacred fire and blessing of the grounds on Thursday, the regalia and new dancers will be blessed on Friday, with grand entrances on Saturday (August 20th) at noon and 7:00pm and Sunday (August 21st) at noon.
Those planning to attend are encouraged to show up early. Sarazin hopes it’s a fun weekend filled with celebration, but is reminding everyone to be respectful as this is a ceremony.
The theme of the Pow-Wow this year is celebrating resilience.
Alcohol and drugs are not permitted at the Pow-Wow. Photos and videos of the ceremony or honour songs are also not permitted, but those attending can ask dancers if they can take their picture.
The ceremonies and Pow-Wow at the cultural grounds in Pikwakanagan are free to attend and everyone is welcome.
