A big splash to expand facilities in Ma-Te-Way park was celebrated on the morning of Wednesday, August 3rd.
Mayor Don Eady, town councilors, the Rotary Club, and local M.P. Cheryl Gallant were on hand to cut the ribbons on the expanded splash pad and new tennis and pickleball courts a few steps away from the Ma-Te-Way Centre.
Councilor Tom Sidney tells myFM that it’s a proud moment to see work being completed at Ma-Te-Way.
Rotary Club President Bruce Rozycki says providing the funds to improve the town’s splash pad, which is believed to be the most used facility in town, made sense as part of their own 100th anniversary celebrations.
Rozycki says their contribution for the splash pad came from the estate of Frances Wilson, who wanted Rotary to invest it back into the town.
Also on hand were Renfrew’s Tennis Club and local pickleball players, who put on free clinics for both sports on Wednesday to officially break in the new courts.
Parks and Recreation Director Kevin Hill says that hard work from all involved made sure both facilities would be open for most of the Summer.
Hill adds that while you’re free to enjoy both of the sites right on the doorstep of the MAC, you are asked to stay clear of the ongoing expansion efforts happening behind the arena.
