The power of one.
New resident JJ Davis won Arnprior Council’s heart by pointing out an obvious oversight when, after her presentation at the municipal meeting Monday, elected representatives gave staff direction to lay ground work for a public advisory committee on Climate Change.
(Arnprior Mayor Walter Stack, thanking Davis for her presentation).
Individual councillor remarks included Chris Toner, who conceded he doesn’t know what he doesn’t know, but is eager to address the challenges ahead.
Davis told the assembly that if climate change is present in both Lanark County and Tay Valley Township, it can’t be far off now.
Councillor Dan Lynch says the County of Renfrew is also on the bandwagon.
Lynch says Renfrew County is relying on the Federation of Canadian Municipalities reference list, also cited by JJ Davis in her presentation, for its materials.
Among her proposed tasks for such a Climate Planning body is that it would measure Town emissions, set emission reduction requirements and implement actions required.
Administration will prepare a road map of logistics and a suggested committee composition and return with a report to Council in a timely fashion.
