OPP identify suspects arrested as part of project NIELD in the Ottawa Valley

The OPP has arrested and charged 22 people as part of a massive drug bust bust called project NIELD.

Police seized suspected fentanyl, heroin, cocaine, crack cocaine, crystal methamphetamines, psilocybin, thousands of dollars in cash, Conducted Energy Weapons, pepper spray, ammunition, rifles and replica pistols.

Officers also took a significant quantity of cell phones along with scales and debt lists.

Further arrests and charges are expected.

Eight search warrants were executed on the morning of December 2nd, 2021, in Renfrew, Arnprior and Pembroke.

OPP East Region Chief Superintendent Karl Thomas says the OPP recognizes the trafficking of illegal drugs has a serious impact on community safety, leading to increases in a wide spectrum of violent acts and property crimes.

Deputy Director of OCEB, Acting Detective Inspector Chris Kettyle added people who chose to distribute potentially deadly opioids throughout our communities remain a priority focus of our Community Street Crime Teams.

As a result of Project NIELD the following persons have been arrested and charged with the following Criminal Code (CC) and/or CDSA offences.

Michelle Denise ARNOLD, age 54 of Pembroke:

Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition obtained by crime

Possession of a schedule IV substance for the purpose of trafficking – alprazolam

A 17-year-old young person from Ajax, ON was also charged with the following CC, CDSA and Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA) offences:

The name of the youth cannot be released in accordance with the YCJA. The accused was held for a bail hearing and subsequently released to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice Youth Division in Pembroke on January 27, 2022.
