John Petty, the co-organizer of the Shawville Terry Fox Run, has been helping put on the event for over 40-years.
Last year due to COVID-19, he says everything was totally virtual and this year will be a combination of the two.
Petty says they asked residents add up the kilometers and try to cross Canada.
Community members were asked to add up man powered kilometers (walked, run, cycled, kayaked, canoed etc.) and send them to PontiacTryLikeTerry@outlook.com.
Petty says last year the community made it all the way to Thunder Bay, where Terry Fox finished his run, but this year they hope to make it all the way across the country.
Petty says Terry Fox was his hero and adds it’s inspirational seeing the younger generations getting involved.
You’re invited to the in-person event this year which is taking place Sunday, September 19th, 2021 at Pontiac High School in Shawville, Quebec.
Petty says registration is at 1:00pm, but due to COVID-19 people can come and sign up any time after 10:00am and pick a distance to walk.
