The County of Renfrew will recognize National Day of Truth and Reconciliation (National Orange Shirt Day) on September 30th, 2021.
The “Every Child Matters” flag will also be raised by the County of Renfrew during the month of September.
Renfrew County has also committed to the sharing the stories of residential school survivors, their families, and communities at a future council meeting.
The County of Renfrew recognizes this is a time of tremendous grief and distress for Indigenous Peoples and, as such, are joining the calls to recognize September 30th as a day of mourning and a time to reflect upon Canada’s ongoing history of Indigenous relations.
Earlier this year, Renfrew County council voted towards taking the first steps towards Truth and Reconciliation with First Nations peoples in Canada.
