After a year’s longer wait than anticipated, Carleton Place’s Annie Ferguson is off to Tokyo.
InsideOttawaValley.com reports Fergusson is one of 11 athletes on Canada’s women’s sitting volleyball squad at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics Games, coming up August 24th to September 5th.
Annie departs the team’s Edmonton training camp for Japan on August 13th.
She plays attacker on the sitting volleyball squad and was born with no left hand.
The Tokyo appearance is Ferguson’s first paralympic games- although she was a member of Canada’s teams in her sport at Toronto and Lima Peru parapan events in 2015 and 2019.
Annie Ferguson’s training partner is Jolan Wong of Pembroke, who plays the librero position.
Wong lost her right leg to bone cancer at age 13.
The two are hoping that winning gold at last February’s Paralympic sitting volleyball qualification tournament will stand them in good stead.
