Charges of criminal negligence causing death and bodily harm against a former Calabogie bartender have been stayed.
Ann Senack of Greater Madawaska was charged after a collision in October of 2017 killed two and seriously injured two other hockey players from Renfrew.
Senack served the individuals at Shooters Bar and Grill in Calabogie before they were involved in the fatal collision.
This afternoon (May 13th, 2021), the charges were stayed and Senack entered into a 10-year peace bond set at $25,000 with no deposit required.
Conditions of the peace bond include her not being allowed to serve alcohol or own an establishment that serves alcoholic beverages, serve 300 community hours before May 31st of 2025 and 150 of those hours needing to be completed by May 31st of 2023.
Senack has made donation of $10,000 to Victim Services of Renfrew County and has agreed to not use that amount as an income tax deduction.
By entering the peace bond, Senack did not agree to the statement of facts provided by the crown, she did not admit guilt or any civil liability.
The crown alleges five young men (four of them who were 18-years-old and under the legal drinking age at the time) were served 2 pitchers of beer, 3 shooters of Burt Reynolds, 5 rum and coke, 2 pornstar shooters, 2 bud light, 2 coors light, 2 ceasers, 4 tequila shots and 20 polar bear shooters.
The crown alleges that Brandon Hanniman, the driver of the vehicle that crashed, had a blood alcohol concentration of 162 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood, two times over the limit.
Hanniman was pronounced dead on the scene and hockey teammate Alex Paquette died in hospital. Two others were seriously injured in the crash.
The trial has concluded and the defense lawyers said their client, Ms. Senack, is relieved, but adds this is not a victory for her or anyone.
