Sasha Pole is a kindergarten teacher at Admaston Public School in Renfrew.
She started her career as a highschool teacher in Manitoba, but says her favourite grade to teach is kindergarten. Pole taught at Central Public School in Renfrew before moving to Admaston Public School where she has been for 12-years.
She says her favourite part of the job is seeing the pure joy in the kids. Pole adds it’s amazing to see students come in to school, not even knowing how to line up and learning how to read, write and do math. The Renfrew kindergarten teacher says it’s rewarding to watch the next generation grow.
Pole says the COVID-19 pandemic has presented challenges in the classroom, but says she’s thankful to have a great teaching partner and group of students. Pole says they had to make cohorts in the classroom, sanitize toys, a lot of playing outside and for the most part the kids don’t even notice they have a mask on. She says it’s a big change, but the kindergarten class at Admaston Public School has adapted well and continues to learn and play. Pole says they played a lot of games including show and share during virtual learning. She there was some challenges with the internet when showing videos and playing music because of it lagged too much.
One of the biggest challenges she says she faced over the course of her career was teaching her own children. Pole adds she is proud of the great teaching partner in the classroom and says they make a great pair together.
The kindergarten teacher at Admaston Public School in Renfrew encourages others who are interested to get involved in teaching. She says it’s a rewarding career watching the next generation grow.
